About the V8 Supercar Championship Series
V8 Supercars continues as one of Australia’s largest sports both in attendance and television audience. In 2010, around 1.7 million people walked through the gates at V8 Supercars events, including V8 Supercars’ 20 millionth spectator at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
While now an international category, the V8 Supercars Championship has increased its number of domestic events for the 2011 season, now with 12 local race weekends. After racing 11 times on Australian shores in 2010, the Championship’s return to Perth for the Trading Post Perth Challenge increases the amount V8 Supercars events on Australian shores. The move reinstates V8 Supercars as a truly national sport.
In addition to these 12 domestic Championship events, V8 Supercars will again compete at the Australian Grand Prix. While the event will continue to have non-Championship status, V8 Supercars will have an increased presence event, now housed in its own pit structure on the main straight, along with longer races featuring pit stops and a total prize pool of $500,000.
V8 Supercars’ new international flavour also compliments the brand’s continuation with international pop sensation P!nk as its brand ambassador. P!nk was enlisted to be the face of the Championship at the start of the 2010 season after getting a taste of V8 Supercar action in 2009. P!nk will again appear in the promotion and marketing of the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship, helping to promote the sport to a wider audience.
