AFTER a year on the sidelines purely as an endurance driver, David Reynolds returned to full-time status in the V8 Supercars Championship in 2011 and reminded everyone of his talent.
Plenty of strong qualifying performances and races clearly illustrated that he deserved his drive with Kelly Racing in the Stratco Commodore, however the year ended up quite messy off-track due to his ongoing relationship with the team and plans for the 2012 season.
Nevertheless, Reynolds impressed in 2011 and always proved to be good for a quote too – so BigPond Sport downloaded with him about his return season, one in which he made quite a mark.

What is your highlight of 2011?
Qualifying for the Shootout at Bathurst.
What is your funniest moment from 2011?
Probably the Porsche/Make-A-Wish Foundation dinner I went to earlier in the year. Daniel Gaunt and I decided to do some bidding on some silent auctions – for each other – without telling the other! We ended up with some great kids toys to play with – ha!
What are you getting up to during the off-season break?
I went and spent some time back in Albury over Christmas to see the family and spend some time with my old friends. It was good to float down the river and relax! I went to New Zealand for New Year's Eve and to hang out with my little mate Daniel – everything hangs it on us because we’re always hanging out together!
What was the race that got away from you in 2011?
The Sunday race in Townsville for sure. Things were looking good there. Our strategy would have played out there just fine. We had a lot of pace in the car on hard and soft tyres but then the alternator, battery and cool suit failed. Everything electrical failed and then I failed and bumped into James Courtney trying to get into the pit lane.
But that was a result of everything failing. Had things not been failing I shouldn’t have been near him anyway.
New Year’s Resolution?
At some point I’d like to stop drinking coffee …
2012 Goal?
Race win, pole position, round win.
2011 Rating out of 10?
It depends in what regard I guess. As a season in total, I’d give myself a 6. It’s been a tough second half of the season away from the track.
