2011 In Review: Jason Bargwanna

AFTER parting ways with Kelly Racing last off-season, Jason Bargwanna  joined Brad Jones Racing in 2011 - his third team in as many years.

Bargs' podium finish in Perth broke his seven-year drought, but top ten results were hard to come by for the Jana Living racer and more often than not he found himself involved in the mid-pack mayhem.

Bigpond Sport chatted with Bargwanna about his season.

Championship Position: 22nd

Best Result: 3rd (Perth)

Best Qualifying: 7th (Perth)

What is your highlight of last season?

The podium we got in Perth. To stand up there and spray the champagne and also celebrate (Jason) Brighty's first race win for BJR was definitely the highlight.

What is your funniest moment from last season?

Being close to NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip at Bathurst and listening to his explanation of the circuit – he was pretty excited!

What are you getting up to during the off-season break?

I went to New zealand and raced the week after the Sydney Telstra 500, and there are several more rounds through till March. I must be the only gig that drives a Ford on one side of the ditch and a Holden on the other! Aside from that I'll be at home and spending plenty of time with the kids.

What was the race that got away from you last year?

In Townsville we were headed for a top five result but had to double stack in pit lane. I watched my teammate do a pit stop, which killed any chance of a good result. That was one of the most frustrating races.

New Year's Resolution?

Be good to my wife! Be a better dad and be smarter in business.

2012 Goal?

To win.

2011 Rating out of 10?

Halfway through the season we were probably on track for an 8, but the second half we dropped to a 5. Averaged out I'd say a 6 or 7 for the whole year. We certainly had some bad luck in the last half of the year. Without getting turned around as much as I had we'd probably have been somewhere in the top 15 in the championship, but that's the way it goes.
