A Shiny New Toy for Slade

LUCKY 7 Racing’s Tim Slade will have extra incentive to stay off the concrete walls at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide for the championship opener in March - he doesn’t want to damage his brand new racecar.

Stone Brothers Racing has built Slade a new Falcon – FG05 - to tackle the championship this year and he’s pumped.

“It’s the first-ever brand new race car I’ve ever had, in fact the last time I had anything new was a go-kart in juniors a long time ago,” an excited Slade told BigPond Sport.

“Looking at it in the workshop, it should be in a showroom, not on a race-track.

“Being a new car it would be nice to be doing the first event in Abu Dhabi again rather than Clipsal because the street circuits are so tough, demanding and hard on the cars and I don’t want to damage it.”

Slade has been driving his taller stable-mate Shane van Gisbergen’s former car and is already seeing the benefits of his new weapon.

“Because this car is built for me a lot of the switches are a lot closer so I don’t have to reach so much.”

The Lucky 7 racer finished ninth in the championship last year and has emerged as one of the young guns to watch in 2012.

He is relishing the opportunity to put his new Falcon through its paces at the Sandown test day on Saturday February 11, but doesn’t pin all his hopes for success on having a new toy.

“Once upon a time there was big hype and excitement around having a new car, but it’s hard to improve on what’s already out there, although I am enjoying walking past, seeing it all gleaming and sparkling.”

The livery for Slade’s new car will be unveiled prior to the Sandown test day.
