DICK Johnson Racing will make its most aggressive assault on the V8 Supercars Championship in its 30-year history, formally confirming today on the Gold Coast the formation of a four-car super-team.
The expansion follows a merger with Paul Morris Motorsports that will see Steve Owen jump into a new look #49 V.I.P Petfoods Falcon run from the DJR workshop under a Racing Entitlements Contract (REC) owned by Paul Morris.
The Triple Eight-built Falcon was previously raced in 2010 and 2011 by Jonathon Webb and is returning to the DJR workshop, considering it was prepared by the team for Webb in 2010.
Owen, who finished 17th in last year’s V8 Supercars Championship in a V.I.P. Petfoods Commodore for PMM, will run alongside the Jim Beam entries of Steven Johnson and Dean Fiore and the Norton-backed car of James Moffat.
“It’s an exciting development for us and I really look forward to welcoming Steve back to DJR following his endurance drive with us in 2008,” said owner and Team Principal Dick Johnson.
“The support of such an iconic Queensland company such as V.I.P Petfoods is essential to a team like ours.
“They are passionate supporters of Australian motorsport and we look forward to working with them closely throughout the season.”
The fourth car in this new-look super-team, James Moffat’s Norton entry, will be unveiled in Sydney on Monday.
