TYRE giant Dunlop has been confirmed as the new naming rights sponsor of the V8 Supercars Development Series for 2012 in a six-year deal.

The series, which will be contested for the 13th time this season after being established in 2000, will now be known as the ‘Dunlop Series’.

Dunlop has been the control tyre partner of V8 Supercars since 2002 and last year announced that it had extended its exclusive supply deal through to the end of the 2017 season.

V8 Supercar CEO David Malone said the support of long-term sponsors such as Dunlop was the backbone of the sport’s success.

“Dunlop has been a magnificent partner for a long time and we are very proud to have them back across multiple platforms for the next six years,” Malone said.

“Through these partnerships Dunlop are able to showcase their tyre technology as a world leader on and off the race track.”

Round one of the Dunlop Series will support the Clipsal 500 on March 1-4 with the remaining six rounds to be held at Barbagallo, Townsville, Queensland Raceway, Winton, Bathurst and Sydney.

A range of former Dunlop Series champions will line up on the grid in the main Clipsal 500 event this year including Mark Winterbottom (2003 champion), Tony D’Alberto (2007), Steve Owen (2008/2010) and Jonathon Webb (2009).
