FORMULA Ford squad Minda Motorsport is joining the Dunlop Series for 2012.
The Victorian-based team – run by Bruin Beasley – has purchased a VE Commodore from Garry Rogers Motorsport and will make its debut in the opening round in Adelaide on March 1-4.
Formula Ford driver Elliot Barbour, 21, will drive for the team under the #98.
Minda Motorsport will be a busy place this season, running cars in Formula Ford, the Dunlop Series and the Australian GT Championship.
Long-time V8 Supercar engineer Barry Ryan, who left Kelly Racing during the off-season after engineering Greg Murphy’s Pepsi Max Commodore last year, will engineer the entry.
“Having Barry on board is an important part of our business plan, as we expand and take on new challenges we need the staff and infrastructure to be in charge of our own destiny, and Barry brings an wealth of experience and skill to the team,” said Beasley.
“Elliot did some Formula Ford with us and with his Touring Car Masters outings in the V8 Charger, he has shown very good speed and maturity.
“We all understand it’s going to be a learning year for Elliot but I have a genuine belief that he will surprise a few people this year, he’s a pleasure to have around and has the right attitude to progress.
“We have done a lot of homework and we feel we have one of the best cars on the grid. Garry has been fantastic to deal with and I know the car is of a high level.”
