TeamVodafone’s Craig Lowndes topped time-sheets in today’s practice at Symmons Plains, while team-mate Jamie Whincup was less than half a second behind in 6th.

The team spent today’s two practice sessions putting the car through a number of set-up changes to ensure each car was prepared for the first of the weekend’s two races.

Lowndes, who managed a swift 52.0667sec lap with just seconds to spare, said the #888 car was near perfect form.

“We put the car through a number of set-up changes in the first practice session to sort out a few issues,” Lowndes said.

“We put a good set of tyres on at the end there and the car performed well and was really easy to drive.

“I think we can replicate today’s performance but the team and I have a fair bit to go through before tomorrow. The Symmons Plains track is always a danger zone so we are going to focus on doing our best,” he added.

Whincup was disappointed by today’s result but was positive the team would have the car in top form for the weekend.

“It was a tough day and definitely not what we expected. We really struggled to get the car 100%,” Whincup said.

“We showed our hand today so we need to make the car better. There’s really no excuse for our performance and there’s going to be a lot of work to do tonight.

“It was much warmer today than we expected so I was quite hot in the car. It was a contrast to what it’s usually like in Tassie,” he stated.

Qualifying will kick-off at 11:20am tomorrow followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 12:20pm. Race 21 (50 Laps) of the V8 Supercars Championship Series will commence at 3:35pm. For all the latest news and updates on TeamVodafone, visit www.teamvodafone.com.au.
