Karl Reindler will compete in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 as a lead driver for the first time this weekend - an important milestone in any V8 Supercar driver's career.

The West Australian will share the #21 Fair Dinkum Sheds Commodore with reigning Australian GT Champion David Wall, and is looking forward to implementing what he's learnt in his two previous Bathurst starts as a co-driver.

Reindler made his Bathurst debut in 2008 alongside Michael Patrizi in the Ford Rising Stars Racing Falcon, before partnering 1998 Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bright at Fujitsu Racing last season.

As 'Driver A' this year, Reindler will be responsible for completing much of the pre-race car set-up work, qualifying on Friday, and starting the race on Sunday morning.

"I can't wait to take on Bathurst in my own car," said Reindler.

"Brad Jones Racing has produced some very fast cars at Bathurst over the last decade, and David is a great asset for us as well - he did a great job at Phillip Island.

"It's going to be a good feeling leaving pit-exit for the first time in a car I know well. I'm really pumped for the weekend.

"It's a good increase in responsibility for me this year - qualifying on Friday and then starting the race on Sunday morning.

"No doubt I'll be a little more nervous before the start this year than in previous years. With a full tank of fuel and a 3.15 diff ratio, they're not easy to get off the line."

Of his previous Bathurst experience, which includes two Fujitsu Series races in 2008, Reindler considers driving alongside Bright to 11th place last year as a tremendous learning process.

"It was great working with Brighty last year," said Reindler.

"He has so much experience at Bathurst, and knows what's required to go well there.

"The biggest thing I learnt is that plenty of obstacles will be thrown your way throughout the day, and you've just got to keep pressing on the best you can.

"We were off at the first corner of the race last year, and a lap down by Lap 2.  But the team managed the situation well, and with a bit of strategy and a lot of hard work we were able to get back on the lead lap and almost achieve a top ten finish.

"Last year really proved to me that you need a 'never say die' attitude at Bathurst. You need to manage the situations and incidents that arise as best as you can, take a few calculated risks, and have the best car you can for the final 20 laps.

"But every time you go to Bathurst you learn something new about the track and the race. Experience counts for so much- you just can't get enough laps around the place."

The 2010 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will kick off with two practice sessions on Thursday, before qualifying on Friday, the top 10 qualifying shootout on Saturday, and the 161 lap race on Sunday.
