FORD Performance Racing (FPR) will offer incentive to young motorsport drivers to impress on the track this year with an evaluation drive at the end of the season.

Former V8 Supercar driver and endurance driver with FPR, Steven Richards is behind the initiative.

He is using his ties with the Australian Formula Ford Championship and Carrera Cup to establish a tiered program that will assist young drivers to climb the motorsport ladder.

As part of the initiative, the driver who wins the 2012 Australian Formula Ford Championship will receive a test in Steven Richards’ Laser Racing Porsche.

If they go on to compete in the Carrera Cup in 2012, their driver’s participation fee will be waived.

Meantime, the highest placed finisher in this year’s Carrera Cup championship aged under 30 will secure the FPR evaluation drive.

Richards was Formula Ford Champion in 1994 and retains a close involvement in the category, as an official ambassador and driving standards observer as well as racing in Carrera Cup.

Four 2012 V8 Supercars Championship drivers have progressed from Formula Ford to Carrera Cup and onto V8 Supercars, including David Reynolds, Dean Fiore, James Moffat and Fabian Coulthard.
