Drivers, team members and thousands from the wider motorsport community gathered at Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway to celebrate the life of Jason Richards, who passed away on December 15 after a brave battle with Adreno Cortical Carcinoma (ACC).

Channel Seven’s Mark Beretta led the public service, which included moving tributes from both V8 Supercars’ chaplain Garry Coleman and Richard’s father Dave.

Brad Jones Racing drivers Jason Bright and Andrew Jones, and recently retired Paul Dumbrell also joined together to share some of their fondest memories of their great friend.

All told of Richards’ unmatched enthusiasm for racing, and his courageous approach to fighting his illness – first diagnosed in November 2010.

Former teammate and close friend Cameron McConville closed the service and passed on thanks to the staff at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital, as well as thanking the public for their huge outpouring of support.

Mark Beretta also read a statement from V8 Supercars Chairman Tony Cochrane. Details of a further tribute from V8 Supercars are expected to be announced in the near future.
