SATURDAY Sleuthing returns today for its first run of season 2012 and today we put under the spotlight a car from the V8 Supercars Development Series.
Privateer Aaron McGill had one of the great stories from the final round last year at Sydney Olympic Park where he started on slicks and cut his way through the field to finish seventh.
Reader Bruce Simpson emailed in over summer to ask about the car, where it started and where it has been and, in Saturday Sleuthing tradition, we have answered the call!
The car started life as a John Briggs Motor Sport Falcon BA – JBMS 005 - the first BA built by the team back in 2003.
It was driven as the #65 Falcon by Paul Radisich in Betta Electrical colours for the entire ’03 season, including qualifying on provisional pole at the Sandown 500 on the same weekend that Triple Eight ran in the V8 Supercars Championship for the first time having purchased the Briggs team.
Radisich and Swede Rickard Rydell finished seventh at both the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000 in JBMS 005 before it was resigned to show car duties in 2004 as Triple Eight built its own new cars for the new season and elected to start with a clean sheet of paper.
It was sold to Howard Racing at the end of the ’04 season and was driven by Mark Howard in the 2005 Development Series. He drove it again in 2006 up until the final round when he stepped into a newer Triple Eight car that he’d purchased.
This car was retained by Howard Racing in 2007 and driven by Adam Sharpe (running DJR engines) in the Development Series and sat on the sidelines for most for 2008 before Aaron McGill took it over and made his first start in it at Bathurst.
It appeared late in 2009 in McGill’s hands, was updated to BF specification in 2010 and has been driven by McGill in the Development Series ever since.
JBMS 005 has certainly covered some racing miles and had some different paint liveries, but it’s going to return this season with McGill when the DVS kicks off at Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 in March.
‘Saturday Sleuthing’ has become a regular feature of the BigPond Sport V8 Supercars site each Saturday on non-race weekends and will be going strong right throughout summer.
It will take a break next week as we continue our review of the 28 drivers from the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship season.
But which car would you like us to find?
Email ask@v8supercars.com.au with your queries and we’ll add them to our list!
And drop us a line if you think you’ve done some Sleuthing of your own!
