WE’VE had piles of fantastic email during the off-season asking for the V8 Sleuth to put together some stories on the V8 Supercars raced by the late, great Jason Richards.
Most of them have asked us about his infamous 2003 rollover car – the Team Dynamik Commodore – that ‘JR’ sent into orbit in a practice crash in his native New Zealand.
We’ve known where the car is for a while, but there have been some developments over the last few months that made this a great story we wanted to share with you.
THR Developments in Adelaide own the car – TD chassis 001 - which last year was restored back to its #45 Team Dynamik livery as raced by Richards in 2003.
The team is going to race the car in this year’s Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Car Series – part of the Shannons Nationals for former V8 Supercar machinery – and in a really nice touch, they will leave it in the livery as raced by Richards.
“Time is getting away from us for the first round at Eastern Creek in March, but we fully intend to race the car this season,” says THR Developments co-owner Nick Taddeo.
“We will keep the same livery on the car as Jason raced it – it was always our intention to do that.
“Whoever ends up driving the car during the season, their own sponsor will fit them around the existing livery as best as we can manage it.
“We’re waiting on a few engine parts, but we’ve pulled the car down to a bare shell and want to make sure it’s 100 percent and ready to go.”
We look forward to seeing this machine back in action during the 2012 season.
We’re still working our way through all of your email from over summer, but keep loading us up and email us ask@v8supercars.com.au with suggestions for cars for us to find.
