After a successful day of testing at Queensland Raceway yesterday TeamVodafone driver Craig Lowndes has switched gears today- giving motoring guru and Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson the ride of his life in his Bathurst-winning Commodore from last years 'Great Race'.
Clarkson is also expected to get behind the wheel of the V8 Supercar for some laps at the Holden Performance Driving Centre at Norwell on the Gold Coast.
Clarkson is in Australia as part of the Top Gear LIVE tour and will sample vehicles at the Norwell facility along with fellow Top Gear personalities James May and Shane Jacobson.
Whincup is back at Queensland Raceway today helping endurance teammate Andrew Thompson, who is conducting his second day of testing in a jet black Commodore with no livery.
Thompson’s plan to compete in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series is expected to be announced by T8 soon.
Both Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes posted impressive lap times at yesterday’s test with low 1min 11's, but the focus of the day was on fuel economy rather than outright speed.
Team Principal Adrian Burgess was pleased with the progress made and said the feedback from both the drivers and engineers was extremely positive ahead of the Clipsal 500- one of the toughest events of the year.
TeamVodafone came away from the opening V8 Supercar event in Abu Dhabi last month with mixed results.
Whincup won the opening race of the year and claimed a podium finish in Race 2. Lowndes scored his first pole position since 2009, but a heavy collision with Ingall in Race 2 cost him any chance of a strong result.
Whincup and Lowndes head to the Clipsal 500 in a fortnight’s time sitting 1st and 9th respectively in the Championship.
The team applied the knowledge gained at the Yas V8 400 to yesterday’s test in preparation for the two gruelling 250km races of the Clipsal 500 in a fortnight’s time.
Event 2 of the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be held at Adelaide Parklands on March 17 – 20.
