AS the nation celebrates Australia Day today, the countdown is on for the start of the 2012 V8 Supercars' championship on home soil.

Adelaide's Clipsal 500 returns to its traditional season-opening slot, kicking off the 2012 championship in just 34 days' time- from March 1st to 4th.

Organisers have resurfaced several parts of the Adelaide street circuit in preparation for the upcoming. The approach to turn four on Wakefield Road, turn five and the approach to turn six (East Terrace), and the turn nine hairpin have all been treated ahead of this year's race.

First held in 1999, the Clipsal 500 has become one of the most popular events on the calendar.  Last year over 270,000 people witnessed Toll Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and TeamVodafone's Jamie Whincup win Saturday and Sunday's respective 250km races.

One of the original events to successfully promote the 'rock 'n race' formats, this year's Adelaide Casino Live Large Concert Series again features three nights of concerts.

Winter Gordon and the Potbellez headline the Friday night lineup and INXS and Vanessa Amorosi are amongst the Saturday night performers.

After the final race on Sunday, American rock band Good Charlotte will be joined on stage by The Living End, Sneaky Sound System, and Spiderbait. Attendance at the concert is free to all valid Clipsal 500 Adelaide ticket holders for the day.

Aussie fans will get their first chance to see the new liveries at the official pre-season test day at Sandown Raceway, Melbourne on Saturday February 11. Admission is free and all 2012 teams and drivers will be in attendance and testing on the day.
