THE 2012 V8 Supercars Championship will again be big, but confirmation of all support categories for all of its Australian events makes it an even bigger year of motorsport ahead.

A total of nine categories – V8 Supercars Development Series, Touring Car Masters, Carrera Cup, V8 Utes, Australian GT, Formula Ford, Formula 3, Aussie Racing Cars and the Australian Superbike Championship will regularly support the V8 Supercars Championship around the country next year.

Full details of the television packages for the various categories will be announced in due course.

Among the stand-out points of interest are:

*    The return of national-level Formula Ford as a support to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. The junior open wheeler category hasn’t raced at Bathurst since 2004 and 2012 will be the first time it has held a round at Bathurst for championship points since 1996. It’s also the first time a championship round has supported the Bathurst 1000 and will be the debut of the Fiesta engined-cars at the Mountain.

*    The return of the V8 Supercars Development Series to Winton after not racing there in 2011.

*    The return of the Porsche Carrera Cup to the Clipsal 500 support bill for the first time since 2008. The all-Porsche series will also race alongside the V8 Supercars at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, which is a non-championship event for V8 Supercars but a championship round for Carrera Cup.

*    The return of the Auto One V8 Utes Series to Symmons Plains and Winton after not racing at either circuit in 2011.

*    The return of the Australian Superbike Championship for ‘2+4’ meetings with V8 Supercars at Barbagallo and Phillip Island.

*    The debut of Aussie Racing Cars in Townsville and return to the Gold Coast.

*    The return of Touring Car Masters to Queensland Raceway after not competing there in 2011.

*    The debut of the Australian GT Championship at the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 and their return to the Sydney Telstra 500.
