Three members from Paul Morris Motorsport (PMM) burnt the midnight oil on Friday night to lend visiting Formula One team, Hispanic Racing Team a hand.
Paul Morris, Racer Industries co-owner Ryan McLeod and Jack Perkins, who raced for Kelly Racing in 2009 and now works for PMM, worked until 2am on Saturday morning with the new Spanish Formula One team.
“What happened was we’re the premier agent for the fuel cell and they had a fuel cell problem with their car,” Morris explained.
“They contacted the manufacturer of the car and they contacted Ryan and myself and then Ryan and Jack went in there and had a look at what their problem was so we got them sorted to get them going for this weekend.
“And then we’re going to airfreight one of their fuel cells back to England for them to get it fixed for them for the next race meeting.”
Perkins said PMM was debriefing when they got the call.
“Being in a foreign country they didn’t know who to go to and it was lucky we were here,” he said.
“We got some spares out of our truck and offered our services and they were very happy that we came to the rescue.”
Morris said a problem with the Hispanic Racing Team’s fuel cell could not pick up the last of the fuel in the tank.
“It was just a really simple little problem but because they are so far away from home you haven’t got the stuff you need to fix it,” he said.
“We had a good look at the all their stuff and what they were doing and it’s good just to be able to help out.”
BigPond Sport understands that Stone Brothers Racing also helped out with some minor parts but the team could not be contacted to verify this.
