The son of four-time Bathurst winner and six-time Sandown endurance race winner Allan Moffat, James Moffat heads into the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship for his second season in the toughest touring car championship in the world.

After competing for two seasons in the Dunlop V8 Supercar Series, Moffat took over the championship-winning #18 Falcon formerly piloted by James Courtney and impressed with his turn of speed in his 2011 rookie season.

Moffat began his driving career in karts and then in the one-make Lotus Series before moving into the rough and tumble of V8 Ute racing, where he was crowned Rookie of the Year and was seventh in the championship in 2005.

Struggling for budget he disappeared from the cockpit until returning in Formula Ford for Sonic Motor Racing in 2007, finishing third in the series and again Rookie of the Year.

Moving into Porsche Carrera Cup in 2008, Moffat was again impressive, clinching yet another rookie award and a race and round win in the final event on the Gold Coast before making the move into the Dunlop Series in 2009 with Sonic in an ex-Craig Lowndes Falcon.

He finished runner-up to Jonathon Webb and won the Mike Kable Young Gun Award for best first year V8 Supercar driver, before enduring a tough season in 2010 in a Ford Performance Racing-run car and finishing third in the development category.

He made his ‘main game’ debut as co-driver to Steve Richards in the 2010 endurance races, finishing 11th and top rookie home at Bathurst.

Moffat remains teammates with Steven Johnson this year at Dick Johnson Racing, though long-time personal backer Norton has stepped up its support and takes naming rights sponsorship positioning on the #18 Falcon for the new season.

This marks the first time since the second half of 2006 that DJR’s #17 and #18 entries have carried separate liveries.
