Branded the ‘Enforcer’ when he debuted in V8 Supercars, Russell Ingall brings a mountain of experience with him to Walkinshaw Racing for the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship.
The two-time Bathurst winner retains his links with sponsor Supercheap Auto after four seasons together at Paul Morris Motorsports and move together as a package to Walkinshaw Racing to run alongside the Holden Racing Team entries of Garth Tander and James Courtney.
A Formula Ford Festival winner in the United Kingdom with Formula 3 experience in Germany and Japan, Ingall was first signed up by Larry Perkins in late 1995 to co-drive with him at Sandown and Bathurst.
The duo won at Bathurst and Ingall found himself in a second Castrol Commodore – the first time Perkins had ever run two cars. The perennial bridesmaid, Ingall would finish runner-up in the series in numerous occasions, but he and Perkins would be the ideal endurance combination, winning Bathurst again in 1997, the Sandown 500 in 1998 and the inaugural Queensland 500 in 1999.
The partnership dissolved in 2002 and Ingall headed to Stone Brothers Racing and Ford. After being in the shadow of team-mate Marcos Ambrose, Ingall would finally achieve his goal of becoming V8 Supercar Champion in 2005.
After four seasons with SBR, Ingall moved back to Holden for 2008 and joined Paul Morris in a highly experienced line-up.
In 2009 he was again a force with further visits to the podium, but the arrival of Triple Eight-built Commodores for the team in 2010 left them confident of further improvements. It didn’t quite pan out that way and again things were tough in 2011 with Ingall recording his lowest ever championship finishing position.
The 2005 champion is the most experienced full-time driver in the field as he lines up for his 17th consecutive season in the V8 Supercars Championship.
