He’d promised so much and shown so much speed and in 2011, Shane van Gisbergen finally delivered.

The young Kiwi ace scored a breakthrough race win on home soil in Hamilton and followed it up with another win at Hidden Valley in Darwin on his way to piecing together a very good year overall and fourth place in the V8 Supercars Championship.

One the emerging stars of the championship; van Gisbergen may be quietly spoken but certainly lets his driving do the talking.

Spotted by noted talent hunters Ross and Jim Stone, the young New Zealander had Formula Ford and Toyota Racing Series (open wheeler) experience and not a great deal else when they took him under their wing in 2007.

He was thrown in at the deep end in an SBR-prepared Team Kiwi Falcon at Oran Park and promptly finished in the championship points on debut – an incredible effort.

The youngster finished in the points again before the end of the season and teamed with fellow Kiwi John McIntyre in the Sandown and Bathurst endurance events, helping build his experience of the tracks and racing in the toughest touring car category in the world.

Called up to replace Russell Ingall in the #9 SBR Falcon for 2008, ‘The Giz’ impressed all with his blistering speed, particularly in wet and damp track conditions.

Each year since he’s been a full-time driver for SBR, van Gisbergen has improved his championship position each and every year, leaving a spot in the top three as his next goal for this season.

Clearly a raw talent with a big future still ahead of him, van Gisbergen will drive the #9 SBR Falcon backed by SP Tools for the fifth straight season.
