IRWIN Racing V8 Supercar endurance driver Matt Halliday and world football superstar Christiano Ronaldo have spent time together at the Boost Mobile Cabana at Project Beach House in Malibu, California.
The two professional athletes exchanged injury stories as Christiano hurt his ankle in his last Manchester United Soccer Game. The New Zealand racer gave his new pal tricks to get back on his feet again.
"We hung with friends by the pool and barbecued chicken and ribs," said Halliday.
"We talked about my upcoming V8 programme with IRWIN Racing at Phillip Island and Bathurst and new vodka sponsor 26000 Vodka.
"He's a fantastic player and I was tempted to get a soccer ball out and have a kick around. With him on crutches it would be my best chance to show my skills!
"It was very exciting to meet Christiano, but I'm more looking forward to the coming week when I fly down to Australia and get together with Marcus Marshall and the rest of the IRWIN Racing crew.
"The plan is to head to Winton for the next V8 Supercar round and get time in the car during the Friday practice session. It is really important to get know the team as well as meet up with the guys from Irwin Industrial Tools."
The eighth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series gets underway at Winton Motor Raceway in Central Victoria on 1-3 August.
