Good Charlotte rockers Joel and Benji Madden have kick-started their Australian
promotional tour with a flying hot lap aboard Todd and Rick Kelly's Jack
Daniel's V8 Supercars at Phillip Island today.
The Madden brothers, who
are part of American pop-punk band Good Charlotte, were today hosted by V8
Supercar siblings Todd and Rick Kelly at the famous Phillip Island circuit,
reaching speeds up to 290km/h (180mph) strapped into the passenger seat of the
Kelly brothers’ Jack Daniel's Commodores.
“I’m sure not many people get
to do that in their life time,” said Joel Madden.
“This was one of the
coolest things I have ever done. I’ve never been that fast before, those things
really fly. When you are on stage it’s good adrenalin but you’re more in
control. In the car I was pretty much just holding on, I would love to do it
again.”
Todd and Rick Kelly currently compete in the V8 Supercar
Championship Series for Jack Daniel’s Racing and were at the Phillip Island
Grand Prix Circuit as part for their preparations for the L&H 500 Phillip
Island on September 10-12.
With both the Jack Daniel's Commodores at the
circuit, the brothers couldn’t help but engage in some harmless brother rivalry.
“I had Benji with me and he was really enjoying it so we put in a couple
of real fast laps to try and ensure Todd didn’t give Joel a quicker experience,”
laughs Rick Kelly.
Joel and Benji Madden are in Australia to promote
their new single ‘Like it’s her birthday’ and new album ‘Cardiology’ due for
release on November 2.
“They are both great guys, I think secretly they
are adrenalin junkies, taking people like that for a spin is really enjoyable,”
said Todd Kelly.
The V8 Supercars ‘Greatest Show on Wheels’ heads to
Phillip Island on September 10-12 to begin the hugely anticipated ‘Season of
Endurance’ for the L&H 500 Phillip Island.
A challenging new race
format, preventing full-time Championship Series drivers from pairing together
in the same car, is expected to deliver some thrilling racing.
This year
the event is also offering on-site camping for fans wanting to get amongst the
action-packed race weekend.
Tickets for the L&H 500 Phillip Island
start from $26 and are available from www.ticketek.com.au
