Solid Fourth For Bargwanna In Race Two |
| Release Date: 08/03/2003 |
Orrcon RacingÆs Jason Bargwanna continued his sterling form in the second race at the Australian Grand Prix V8 Supercar challenge, whilst Mark Larkham toiled away in the midfield pushing into the top twenty.
Bargwanna had the #20 Orrcon racerÆs wheels spinning off the start line but was able to cover a challenge from John Bowe at turn one to hold 5th position.
Half way around the lap Jason was applying enormous pressure to K-mart RacingÆs Greg Murphy and it was not long before Murphy ran wide coming onto the main straight.
Bargwanna pounced and went up the inside of the K-mart car and was up to 4th and began to pull away. Murphy soon regained his stride and by lap five he was right behind Bargwanna and applying the pressure in what was obviously a slightly quicker car.
Bargwanna defended well for a lap and a half but Murphy was getting off the corners better and lunged up inside Jason at turn twelve.
Bargwanna could have defended his position but chose discretion over valor and although the two cars made contact (shattering MurphyÆs passenger window) Bargwanna continued on in 5th.
This decision paid dividends four laps later when Murphy speared off the track attempting a pass on Jason Bright handing 4th back to the #20 for the rest of the race.
Whilst Bargwanna was battling at the front Mark Larkham had his work cut out in the midfield with several cars swapping paint in the opening laps. Larkham initially battled with Paul Radisich and then Simon Wills in the early part of the race settling into 24th place.
With an improved, but still not ideal, braking package Larkham's goal was to stay out of trouble and move up the order and despite losing a rear taillight and some bumper damage this strategy paid off.
Larkham moved up the order as Simon Wills, Brad Jones and Marcos Ambrose had mishaps eventually breaking into the top twenty by race end.
The Orrcon Racing team will now set about preparing the cars for tomorrowÆs 10 lap curtain raiser to the Australian Grand Prix.
