A CHANCE to sit clearly atop the all-time winning records sits before Craig Lowndes, ahead of today’s second race at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

Lowndes’ first win on the famous Adelaide Parklands circuit yesterday drew him level with Mark Skaife on 90 career V8SC / ATCC race wins – a win in today’s second race set to elevate him to clear leadership as the most successful driver in series history.

Lowndes and Skaife each have 90 wins, Whincup clear in third place on the list with 64 rounds.

“To be honest, I wasn’t thinking about it today,” Lowndes said.

“I knew I was one stop away from equalling him, but I didn’t think about it - but, now knowing about it – it’s hopefully going to be satisfying when I beat it.

“Obviously today we had a healthy gap but the competition isn’t that slow – it’s just that we were quite fortunate and the traffic worked for us. Will was quick, Fabian Coulthard was quick and Shane van Gisbergen was quick but didn’t get to show it. Frosty was second and didn’t get to show it. I think tomorrow there will be more competition in the race.

“If I do get the opportunity to beat it, I’m sure Mark will come down and thank me!”
