THIS year’s Sydney Telstra 500 in December will feature a range of homegrown Australian music acts with the concert line-up today announced for the event at Sydney Olympic Park.
After playing host to a reunited Cold Chisel in 2009, ANZ Stadium will feature a reformed Hunters & Collectors on Saturday December 3, the evening before the final race of the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship.
John Farnham, Noiseworks and James Reyne will join the ARIA Hall of Famers for the second night of concerts at the event.
Originally formed in 1981, Hunters & Collectors made a special appearance for the Sound Relief concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 2009, but will reform in full for a one-off performance in Sydney after disbanding in 1998.
Led by singer/songwriter Mark Seymour, their catalogue of hits has made a major impact on the national songbook, including ‘Holy Grail’, ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ and ‘Do You See What I See’.
The ‘Hunners’ became an integral part of Australian culture through their distinctive rock music and notorious pub gigs.
Said Seymour: "After performing a benefit concert for the victims of the Victorian bushfires in 2009, Hunters & Collectors realised they could still cut it on the big stage: The MCG, 80,000 people. Could it get any bigger? Maybe. Jump to 2011. V8s. ANZ Stadium. The band got asked again. We believe the gig is big enough. Bring it on!"
John Farnham needs no introduction to the Australian public as the country’s most successful solo artist on-stage and record.
The multi-award winning singer is touring nationally from October – November to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Whispering Jack, an album that continues to be the biggest selling album of all time by a local artist, with sales in excess of 1.4 million.
Headed by lead singer Jon Stevens, Noiseworks enjoyed success with four Australian Top 10 albums; ‘Noiseworks’, ‘Touch’, ‘Love Versus Money’ and ‘Greatest Hits’.
They produced three Top 10 singles, ‘Take Me Back’, ‘Touch’ and ‘Hot Chilli Woman’ before disbanding in 1992.
With his prolific song writing and unique vocal style, singer/songwriter James Reyne led iconic 1980s band Australian Crawl to the top of the music scene.
Hit songs such as ‘Reckless’, ‘The Boys Light Up’ and ‘Downhearted’ still resonate within Australian culture today.
ARIA Award-winning Hip Hop group Bliss N Eso and Jebediah will play on Friday night with more acts for that evening to be announced over the coming months.
Tickets to the Sydney Telstra 500 go on sale 9am tomorrow (Friday August 26) from Ticketek (www.ticketek.com.au or 132 849) and public transport is included with a pre-purchase ticket on select services.
The three-day Rock n’ Race pass is the ‘golden’ ticket for fans in Sydney. Starting from $133, the pass will include three days of racing action plus the Friday and Saturday night concerts.
For the kids, Disney Pixar’s CARS Truck Tour will also makes its final V8 Supercar stop at the Sydney Telstra 500, with event access for kids 12 and under free.
The popular Armor All Auto Show will also return as V8 Supercars collaborates with car clubs and individual enthusiasts to uncover and bring to Sydney some of the finest cars in the country.
