Following the announcement that rock legends Guns N’ Roses are headlining the Sydney Telstra 500 at Sydney Olympic Park this December, V8 Supercars Australia is pleased to announce the five local artists joining the “Gunners” at New South Wales’ premier sporting and entertainment event.
As part of the special announcement V8 Supercars has released a one-off ‘Rock ‘n’ Race weekend pass for just $116 that gets access to all the on-track racing, all concerts and the six music acts and legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk’s exclusive shows in what is extraordinary value across the Saturday and Sunday.
Kicking off the Rock ‘n’ Race festivities on Saturday, December 4 are upcoming rhythm ‘n’ blues outfit, The Delta Riggs and Melbourne’s leading punk-rockers, Spiderbait.
It’s been a while between drinks for Spiderbait and they’re thrilled to be putting the band together for a day of hot cars and even hotter music.
Spiderbait’s garrulous drummer Kram said: “I’m absolutely stoked for Spiderbait to be supporting the legendary Guns N’ Roses at the V8 Supercars in Sydney. An event like this will be awesome and we can’t wait to rip it up. Rock ‘n’ Roll always goes great with fast cars!”
Also set to take the stage, post-race on Sunday, December 5 are three of Australia’s most loved rock ‘n’ rollers – The Angels, Mondo Rock and James Reyne.
With thousands of shows, and some of the biggest hits of a generation between them, be prepared for an awesome night of entertainment following the heart-thumping ride that is the Sydney Telstra 500.
Guns N’ Roses, Spiderbait, The Delta Riggs, The Angels, Mondo Rock and James Reyne will also be joined by American great Tony Hawk, widely regarded as the world’s greatest skateboarder and his team of skateboarders - Sandro Dias, Mitchy Brusco (the 14-year old skateboarding sensation), Jesse Fritsch, Kevin Staab and Neal Hendrix. Hawk will have daily shows on Saturday and Sunday at the skate complex at Sydney Olympic Park.
"I can't wait to skate the Monster Vert Ramp as part of the Sydney Telstra 500 V8 Supercar race at Sydney Olympic Park. It is one of the biggest ramps in the world and its unique design makes for great demo skating. I can't wait to get back there in December!" Hawk said.
V8 Supercars Australia Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard said the additional entertainment offered a sensational weekend double across Saturday and Sunday. A specially formed Weekend Rock ’n’ Race pass is on offer for people wanting to soak up both days of entertainment.
“It's brilliant that we've been able to add to the Rock 'n' Race format for the Sydney Telstra 500 with these headline acts to support the famous Guns N’ Roses, then the following day some of the biggest names in Australian rock will see out the weekend in a relaxed Sunday packed full of entertainment," Mr Howard said.
"Spiderbait is an iconic name in the Australian music industry and a perfect mix with the Gunners and I'm especially proud that Delta Riggs has the opportunity to share the stage as young entertainers making their name on the Australian scene. Then we add in the world's most famous skateboarder in Tony Hawk with daily shows, the Telstra entertainment stage and Road to Tamworth, Armor All Auto Show, indoor paddock, family zone, Roary the Racecar and carnival rides.
"Effectively we have tripled the entertainment value to complement the world's best touring car championship that will make the 2010 Sydney Telstra 500 an even greater success than the first year. And on Sunday afternoon we will crown the 2010 V8 Supercar Champion in what is going to be a cut-throat battle to the wire."
In 2009, more than 184,000 people raced by day and rocked all night during three days of non-stop entertainment and the streets of Sydney Olympic Park will once again ignite from Friday, December 3 to Sunday, December 5 as V8 Supercars push the limits at the season’s final battle.
The Sydney Telstra 500 is the Grand Final of the V8 Supercar Championship Series and is set to deliver even more excitement and explosive action on and off the track in 2010 as the V8 Supercars deliver the Greatest Show on Wheels.
