V8 Supercars Australia has released a statement following the passing of Tom Walkinshaw overnight, aged 64, after a battle with cancer.

The passing of Tom Walkinshaw overnight is a huge loss not just to V8 Supercars but to the world of motorsport. Tom Walkinshaw’s presence and involvement were felt across many facets of motorsport disciplines. TWR’s name was ubiquitous with success in Formula One, Sports Cars, Touring Cars and Rallying but it was his achievement with HSV and HRT in the Australian V8 Supercars Championship for which he will be best remembered here in Australia.

On behalf of the Chairman and all of the team at V8 Supercars Australia our thoughts and sympathies are with Tom’s wife Martine and his entire family at this sad time.
