V8 Supercars Australia has replaced a practice session originally scheduled for the main game with one for the Fujitsu Series on the Friday at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

This is because eight of the 19 Fujitsu Series drivers are rookies at the Adelaide Parklands street circuit or have never raced in a V8 Supercar.

In a memo sent to teams today (Tuesday), V8 Supercars Australia Motorsport Operations Manager, Kurt Sakzewski, explained that the half hour all-in practice session for Fujitsu drivers on Thursday had been changed to a rookies only practice session.

He said to ensure that the other Fujitsu Series entries are not disadvantaged, the first practice originally scheduled for rookies and the bottom 50 per cent in the V8 main game on Friday has been changed to an all-in practice session for the Fujitsu Series.

“Due to the extremely congested Clipsal meeting program the first practice for the (main game) lower 14/rookie practice will not be rescheduled,” Sakzewski said.

The change affects the four main game rookies of Gulf Western Oils Racing’s Daniel Gaunt, Fair Dinkum Homes and Sheds Racing’s Karl Reindler, Kelly Racing’s Tony Ricciardello and Dick Johnson Racing’s Jonathon Webb, however Webb, Gaunt and Reindler have all raced the Adelaide Parklands circuit in the past while competing in the Fujitsu Series.

The main game drivers will hit the track three times on Friday at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, with sessions scheduled to start at 11am, 2.15pm and 3.40pm. The latter two sessions are for all cars to take part in.

V8 Supercars Operations Co-ordinator, Damien White, said: “These changes have been made after careful consideration of what is the best outcome for all V8 Supercar competitors and the overall event.”

Some of the Fujitsu Series debutantes include reigning Australian Formula Ford Champion Nick Percat for Adelaide-based Jay Motorsport in an ex-HRT Commodore and 2007 Formula Ford king Tim Blanchard starts in a Sonic Motor Racing Falcon.
